Based on research from Tulane, the company currently offers two products that provide realtime process monitoring and optimization for chemical and biopharmaceutical manufacturers.

Instapath Wins Tulane Novel Tech Challenge for Student Innovators

The graduate student founders of Instapath Bioptics took home the $12,500 grand prize in the 2017 Novel Tech Challenge, run by the Tulane Office of Technology Transfer. With rapid, high-quality imaging, Instapath aims to improve how biopsies are processed to increase pathology efficiency and reduce repeat biopsies. The team won the competition’s experienced category. Other winners in that category that also work with the Center’s Commercialization team were Viralchemy, developing an anti-viral treatment for dengue fever, and CMDX Biopsy, which has created a new, integrated biopsy punch device to improve skin biopsies.

Advano Receives $180,000 in Funding from Energy Department

The U.S. Department of Energy has selected Advano as one of 114 small businesses nationwide to receive funding and collaborate with national labs to develop critical energy technologies. With $180,000 from the Energy Department’s Small Business Vouchers Pilot, Advano will collaborate with Argonne National Laboratory to develop functionalized silicon nanoparticles for use in lithium-ion batteries. Demand is increasing for these batteries, which are used extensively in electronics, aerospace, and beyond. Based on research from Tulane, Advano is commercializing a technology that lowers the cost of manufacturing nanoparticles to increase battery energy capacity.

Ready Responders Takes Home Top Prizes in Big Idea Competition

Aiming to transform urban emergency response, Ready Responders took home $55,000 in cash and in-kind service prizes at the Big Idea competition at the close of New Orleans Entrepreneur Week. The company is developing a technology-assisted, on-demand network of regular people trained as EMTs and healthcare providers available to provide fast response to medical emergencies to supplement existing medical resources and reduce unnecessary ambulance and emergency department utilization.

Instapath Bioptics Wins Get Started Louisiana Competition

With a team of Tulane graduate students and faculty advisers, Instapath Bioptics won the top $10,000 prize package in a Cox Business competition during New Orleans Entrepreneur Week. The competition featuring five startup finalists was part of the Get Started event series hosted by Cox Business, in partnership with Inc. Magazine. Instapath offers an imaging system that rapidly displays important biopsy features for diagnosis and increases pathology efficiency. This allows patients to be treated sooner and reduces repeat biopsy procedures.

Chosen Diagnostics Wins $60,000 Prize Package in JEDCO Challenge

Chosen Diagnostics won JEDCO’s fifth annual startup pitch competition during New Orleans Entrepreneur Week, with a cash and services prize package valued at $60,000. The Jefferson Parish Economic Development Commission, in partnership with First NBC Bank, hosted the final competition featuring five local startups, and Dr. Sunyoung Kim of Chosen delivered the winning pitch. The company’s Neonatal DDx test will make it easier for doctors to diagnose a common and life-threatening GI disease called necrotizing enterocolitis in premature infants.

RDnote Receives $250,000 Investment from Lafayette General Foundation

Digital health startup RDnote will receive a $250,000 seed investment from the Lafayette General Foundation’s subsidiary Healthcare Innovation Fund. Based at the Center, RDnote provides clients such as hospital systems with a unique nutrition care practice model to manage and customize interventions for patients at high-risk for chronic disease. The seed funding allows RDnote to pilot its product in partnership with Lafayette General Health System and accelerate growth to other Gulf Coast hospital systems.
