The NWCAHSN covers a population of 4 million residents and is delivering a step change in the way the NHS identifies, develops and adopts new innovative products and services.

The NWCAHSN is one of 9 HSN’s in England which have “innovation scouts” based in 25 NHS Trusts who are tasked with bringing in new treatments, technologies, etc. They are the bridge between companies, hospitals, Universities and regulatory bodies.

Better Day Health Teams with Barcoding Inc. to Improve Clinical Operations and Patient Experience 

Health IT startup Better Day Health has a new partnership with national data capture firm Barcoding Inc. Along with automated clinical documentation to improve physician-patient interactions, the startup’s platform now incorporates radio frequency identification technology. Servato Closes Latest Funding Round

$25,000 BioChallenge Pitch Competition Launches

The Center is now accepting applications for the fourth annual BioChallenge pitch competition, in which Louisiana bioscience startup companies will compete for a top prize of $25,000. In the first round, each applicant must submit an executive summary by September 15 describing their company and the new technology they are developing. BioFund Reaches $3M Milestone, Expands Capital Offerings

The New Orleans BioFund has fully disbursed its initial pool of funding for small businesses, providing growth capital to 15 emerging companies in Greater New Orleans. The BioFund has now allocated $3 million to emerging businesses since late 2012 that have grown to more than 85 FTE employees in Southeast Louisiana. The fund is now transitioning to a micro-venture capital model in which startups can receive either equity or debt funding to support business growth. These new capital offerings will include equity investments, convertible debt instruments, and short-term loans.

NOBIC 1 of 3 U.S. Organizations to Receive 2015 SBA Tibbetts Award

NOBIC is one of three organizations nationally to receive the U.S. SBA’s 2015 Tibbetts Award for advocacy of the SBIR/STTR grant programs. These highly competitive grant programs award R&D funding to small businesses to support scientific and technological innovation and create economic growth. From 2011 to 2014, the Center supported 5 emerging local startups in successful applications totaling over $3.2 million. The Commercialization team helps write and review proposals, reaches out to potential applicants, holds educational events on the programs and proposal preparation, and supports statewide efforts to increase Louisiana participation in the SBIR/STTR programs. The White House awards ceremony was held on June 15.
