The U.S. Department of Energy has selected Advano as one of 114 small businesses nationwide to receive funding and collaborate with national labs to develop critical energy technologies. With $180,000 from the Energy Department’s Small Business Vouchers Pilot, Advano will collaborate with Argonne National Laboratory to develop functionalized silicon nanoparticles for use in lithium-ion batteries. Demand is increasing for these batteries, which are used extensively in electronics, aerospace, and beyond. Based on research from Tulane, Advano is commercializing a technology that lowers the cost of manufacturing nanoparticles to increase battery energy capacity.
