Director of Commercialization
We are looking for a motivated and experienced individual with experience in life science/biotechnology commercialization, entrepreneurship, and grant writing. The ideal candidate should possess strong analytical and project management skills; an autonomous work ethic; initiative; and the ability to lead in an entrepreneurial, team-oriented environment.
Experience in technology entrepreneurship, performing market analysis, developing business models, experience in scientific research or engineering, project and team management, program/event planning, an understanding of regulatory approval processes, federal grants is required. The Director of Technology Commercialization will report to the New Orleans BioInnovation Center Executive Director and will oversee a team of Fellows and interns. The Director will interface with local tech transfer officers, researchers, development facilitators at local academic institutions (Tulane University, LSU Health Sciences Center New Orleans, Xavier University, University of New Orleans, and more), entrepreneurs, investors, and other members of the life science and biotech community.

Job Duties
- Interface with key stakeholders, tech transfer officers, researchers, inventors, and local entrepreneurs to identify promising new technologies
- Manage a small team of Technology Commercialization Fellows and Interns
- Oversee projects by providing guidance to the team on market research, competitive analyses, regulatory analysis, and more
- Helping companies reach milestones including development of a pilot project with a hospital system or pharmaceutical company, a clinical trial, seed round, or a customer discovery program
- Develop decks, market summaries, and commercialization strategies for novel technologies
- Assist startups in understanding intellectual property, raising early-stage capital, applying for grants, and launching new technologies and products into the marketplace.
- Develop networking opportunities for the bio community & educational seminar series
- Develop annual pitch competition and a University Technology Showcase event
- Assist with Center’s social media strategy & help clients connect to marketing and PR firms
- Present on behalf of the BioInnovation Center and the Commercialization program to local and regional Universities, healthcare institutions, and others
- Identify relevant grant sources for Center
- Manage multiple grants and sponsorships
- Track growth of client companies and report progress periodically to Center President and Board
- Manage NOBIC Impact Reporting
- Other tasks as needed
Skills, Experience, and Requirements
Entrepreneurial and professional with leadership skills (motivated, on time, autonomous, strong work ethic, seeks to collaborate and build strong rapport)
At least 3 years of experience in:
- Biotechnology & Scientific Research
- Strategic planning; customer discovery, market analysis for life science companies
- Developing, writing, and executing federal or foundation grants
- FDA/Medical technology regulatory approval
- SBIR/STTR Grant writing & support
- Basic knowledge of patents and other intellectual property issues for startups
- Program Design
- Public speaking
- Managing teams and balancing multiple projects
- Strong understanding of bioscience research — graduate background and/or experience in chemistry, biology, engineering or related field preferred
- Graduate or professional degree completed with preference to bioscience/engineering background or entrepreneur
