Commercialization Awareness Meeting

Forty researchers gathered for the Commercialization Awareness Meeting held November 25, 2008 at the NOBIC Conference Room. Presenting in a packed room were Dale Pfost and Richard Montgomery. The presenters shared their experiences and expertise in venture capital backed biotech startups, followed by a question and answer period. The goal of this meeting was to inform academic researchers of the logistics and intricacies involved in the corporate biotech lifecycle.

Bridging Louisiana Bioscience

A roundtable focused on “Bridging Louisiana Bioscience” was held later that afternoon at The Columns Hotel. Company leaders and entrepreneurs shared their ideas and experiences with each other to promote more interaction and conversation between established and emerging entrepreneurs in the biosciences industry. Dr. Gene D’Amour from Xavier University and Roy Keller from the Louisiana Small Business Development Center were the invited speakers at this event, highlighting a number of resources available to local bioscience companies. The goal of this meeting was to promote academic and industrial bioscience interaction.

Biotech Connect Event

New Orleans Biotech Networking Group (NOBING) held a successful social event at The Columns Hotel from 5:30-7:30. Approximately 100 people interested in bio-entrepreneurship gathered in a casual atmosphere to form links and partnerships. The stimulating event was sponsored by the New Orleans BioInnovation Center, LSUHSC, Tulane HSC, and the associated LVC, SLIIDR and CTRECP grants.

NBIA Fall Training Institute
New Orleans - October 13-15, 2008
Learn new techniques for developing or revitalizing your incubation program at NBIA’s 18th Fall Training Institute. This event, designed for incubation and other economic development professionals, will take place at the Chateau Sonesta Hotel in New Orleans. Three intensive workshops will be presented each day, with full-day workshops offered on Monday and Tuesday, and half-day workshops offered on Wednesday.

New Orleans BioInnovation Center Ground Breaking -- - Wednesday, August 20, 2008
The New Orleans BioInnovation Center held it's groundbreaking with great success. Over 160 people attended the two hour event. The culmination was the reveal of the future Center to be erected at the site. Occupancy is expected in late 2009.

NOBING BiotechConnect Event

Networking abounded at the NOBING event at the Bourbon House. Anyone interested in commercializing biotechnology was invited to attend.
The New Orleans Biotech Networking Group (NOBING) is a non-profit organization founded to support and facilitate biotech entrepreneurship in New Orleans and southeast Louisiana. NOBING achieves this goal by hosting social events to provide a relaxed forum so scientists/entrepreneurs, business facilitators, lawyers, and venture capitalists can interact. These people do not usually mix, but their interaction is necessary and important for the economic development of biotechnology in New Orleans.
