The New Orleans BioInnovation Center, part of a new wave of advancements in Louisiana, is at the forefront of today's biotechnology surge. As a cornerstone of Louisiana's commitment to nurturing biotechnology within the state, the Center is a technology business incubator that aims to stimulate bioscience entrepreneurship in the New Orleans area. Our mission is to assist in the development of biotechnology-related companies looking to commercialize technologies from Greater New Orleans area universities, including LSU Health Sciences Center, Tulane Health Sciences Center, the University of New Orleans and Xavier University.

Finding Medical Miracles in Nature
Excitement is building around NuMe Health, a biotechnology company specializing in the arena of medical foods and one of four current start-up ventures from the New Orleans BioInnovation Center incubator. Founded in July 2009 by Dale Pfost and John Elstrott, two highly successful entrepreneurs in the biotechnology and functional food industries, NuMe Health promises to become a major player in the rapidly growing market of medical foods.

Going for the Gold
The construction of the novel New Orleans BioInnovation Center promises to contribute to the city's sense of rebirth as a state-of-the-art facility for the biotechnology industry, as well as one that is environmentally unprecedented in the New Orleans. With plans to become and LEED Gold Certified building, the new BioInnovation Center stands alone as the first of its kind in the city.

Making Sense of Louisiana's
R&D Tax Credits
In December 2009, the BioInnovation Center had the opportunity to host one of the live webinars that it frequently broadcasts online via its website. "Understanding the Revamped Louisiana R&D Tax Credit" featured speaker Susan Bigner, Business Development Officer of Louisiana Economic Development, who explained the R&D tax credits available to the state, and some of the recent changes affecting them. Such R&D tax credits offer great promise and huge benefits to grow Louisiana's economy through its research and development activities.

The Greater New Orleans Biosciences Economic Development District (GNOBEDD) is a 1,500 acre region focused on the development of a life science industry in New Orleans. By partnering with local and national firms, GNOBEDD is linking private industry with government agencies to focus on tax incentives, workforce training, and research partnerships to enhance a company's work in our community.
New Orleans BioInnovation Center Ground Breaking
The New Orleans BioInnovation Center held it's groundbreaking with great success. Over 160 people attended the two hour event. The culmination was the reveal of the future Center to be erected at the site. Occupancy is expected in late 2009.

Navigator to Guide Clinical and Translational Researchers at Tulane and LSU Health Sciences Centers
Clinical research faculty and trainees at LSU and Tulane Health Sciences Centers (LSUHSC and TUHSC) now have a partner to assist in the development of innovative, investigator-initiated clinical trials. Barbara E. Kurth, Ph.D., new clinical research navigator, will serve as a resource for PIs from both institutions to help facilitate the progress of clinical research protocols from conception to analysis and publication of data..
